Olympic Cable Company (OCC) began its operations in 1968 as a cottage industry based in Larkin Industrial Estate, Johore Bahru, to meet the demands of the local market for low voltage house wiring cables. In the years that followed, the cottage industry experienced a significant growth until its acquisition by PJ Development Holdings Berhad in 1990. The acquisition led to restructuring of operations at the Johor factory. Building extensions were constructed to accomodate additional machines to produce a broader range of cable products. Together with highly motivated staff, productivity and efficiency soared. In just two years, the efforts came to fruition with OCC registering a turnover of RM1.0 million per month. In the next year, production commenced for a new addition to the product range - Armoured Cable Products.
By 1994, OCC's armoured cable products had earned its SIRIM certification for outstanding quality, the first of OCC's many milestones that ensued from there on. By this time, the inventory, sales and delivery systems were fully computerised to manage both the extensive product range and the volume of sales orders being received.
In 1995, OCC hit upon another milestone when the company exceeded its own financial targets, turning around its financial performance from a loss making concern into a profitable operation. This is clearly a testament of OCC's sound foundation and experience and dedicated team of high-calibre people that have grown with proficiency over the years.
OCC advanced further with investment in new technology and staff training to increase efficiency of its operations. In 1996, its product range widened with the commencement of aluminium conductor cable production. That very same year, OCC was appointed as the supplier of Armoured Cable Products for the premier power utility company in Malaysia - Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
In recognition of its success, OCC was listed as one of the top 50 most enterprising, privately-owned companies in Malaysia for 1996. The receipt of this Enterprise 50 Award is a prestigious acknowledgement of the business acumen, entrepreneurial skills and corporate vision of OCC.
1997, OCC augmented its operations further by setting up a new factory in Melaka. The 5 hectares (12 acres) new factory was a RM60 M expansion programme to in increase the production capacity & capability of the cable manufacturing operations, for low & medium voltage cables, up to 33kV.
In heading government's drive in promoting Malaysia products in international market, OCC has been actively promoting and exporting its products to export market.
The setting up of a new factory in Vietnam in 2007 marks the dynamic progress of OCC from a humble birth of a cottage industry into an international cable manufacturing company. |
